Frequently Asked Questions
Still have questions? Take a look at the FAQ or reach out with an email anytime.
-
An International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) is the highest globally recognized, standardized credential in lactation care, whereas the general term "lactation consultant" or "lactation counselor" can sometimes be used by individuals with varying, less regulated levels of training.
-
An IBCLC can assess your child’s latch, assist with optimizing breast or bottle feeding, review back-to-work plans, weight your baby to see how much they are getting - and so much more.
-
It is very common for breastfeeding challenges to pop up on day three or beyond, when most people have been discharged from hospital. While nurses are incredibly skilled and valuable, they may not have the IBCLC designation that makes them experts in infant feeding specifically.
-
Yes, feel free to come. If I feel that I require a more thorough visit we can discuss scheduling a private home assessment.
-
The drop-in sessions at the Ottawa Birth and Wellness Centre are pay-what-you-can, with a suggested donation of $20. Accessibility to care is extremely important to me and nobody will be turned away due to financial hardship.
-
Yup, I practiced midwifery in Ottawa for seven and a half years! I have helped hundreds of people meet their feeding goals.
-
No registration is required, although it may save a little time during your visit if you fill in the intake form ahead of time. You can find a link to it at the top of this page, titled “Intake Form - Birth Centre”.
